I’m Hiding from My City

I’m Hiding from My City

Everything that seems so great about my city is really very harmful
The restaurants so fun, fattening me up for my first heart attack
The bars so steam punk and sourced wood, make my alcoholism seem clever
The weed emporiums so pungent, sap my motivation
The new shops sustainable and running up my credit card
The artisan coffee-bars, the handcrafted adrenaline hell
To the east those magic mountains
Where I ski headfirst into a tree
To the west the pristine beaches
Where I drown
All over town the womanly women
Unmanning me
With unreturned glances
The great new museum with room after room
I pass out on the bench
The opera which I never understood
Makes me feel so dumb
The gyms oh the gyms
Full of the fitter hotter younger
The price of humiliation – the convenient monthly auto pay
The dog park where that super cute chihuahua pitbull mix
Bites me on the leg
No rabies shot
The cheese shops oh the free samples
Straight to the arteries
The ice-cream shops with the bacon-flavored ice-cream
And mushroom flavored ice cream
So steam punk and sourced linoleum
The line is only half an hour!
The rents
The price of houses
The lack of history
The history
The disposable architecture
Its strange grandeur
The dryness
The rain
The lack of intellectuals
The overly intellectual
The paucity of bookshops
The bookshops
The smugness of the people
The low self-esteem of the people
It’s all harmful to me
These contradictions
This earthly paradise
This Dantesque hell
Very harmful
I see only danger
The traffic and then my second heart attack
The particulates of pollution in my lungs birthing tumors
The sun?
Always shining sending harmful whatever those waves are called those waves that give you cancer what are they called I don’t even know any more
The hospitals marble floored and full of people dying with fat bank accounts
I have to hide from the doctors and the nurses
And the medical receptionists
I have to stay home inside my secret safe spot in the dark in the middle of this grid
I have to hide from my city
I can’t let it find me
I’m hiding
Shhhhhh…
